![]() Vcarve Pro is for 2d (and 2.5D) carving where it looks like you are wanting to do 3d carving. Greenland Paddle.crv Just a "save" of the DXF import to. All the lines in the CAD program "appear" to start and stop at common points - and TouchCAD has a setting to technically "close" all lines, shapes and surfaces - but VCarve doesn't agree with the results. I guess I would"t know an open vector if one bit me. ( I know it's me, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.) How do the "join/close vectors" tools work? The edit tools in VCarve that close vectors don't seem to have any effect. Does my DXF export need to be 2.5D? That is, do I need to export a half-oval slice of the (half) paddle? (half-smile!)Ģ. Is it reasonable-workable to carve a 3D object out of the middle of a piece of wood by flipping it over and cutting twice?Ģ. Still, the tool path calculation finds 156 open vectors.ġ. When I check "closed vectors" in the filter, the whole paddle lights up. When I run the "selection filter" in Vcarve, just before calculating the toolpath, the filter shows me that there are no open vectors. I've "closed" all the lines in the CAD program and exported a DXF. ![]() I can't get a toolpath, however, because an error box tells me there are 156 "open vectors" and 2 duplicate vectors. My thought is to carve one side and then turn the stock over and carve the other side (with tabs to suspend it in the middle of the 2"x4"). I designed a half-length of the paddle and then mirror it for the full paddle. The paddle basically resolves from a rounded oval at the middle to a flattened oval at the ends. That shouldn't be a problem.īut VCarve Pro has got me thinking 3D, so I designed a simple project in TouchCAD: a Greenland-style paddle that can be carved from a 2"x4" x8' stock. I'm using TouchCAD to design kayaks because it's got some good marine analysis tools and hull "unfolding" capabilities. I'm a new CNC owner and new to VCarve Pro.
